Her feet, planted in the sky.
Her roots, tethered to the earth.
Ultraviolet rays fuel each cell of her being
Meditations, kneeling at the clouds.

There was a time when she hid it all.
A disguise so as to fit in.
To comply, to be one of the masses.
She wore her hair as she was told.
Her attire decreed by social scripture
A hunch in her back so others wouldn’t be intimidated.
Her desire to be popular superceded all rationale.
An eagle walking amongst chickens.

So many years washed away in floods of saline.
Who she is fighting against who she wanted people to see.
Yet glory can only be hid for so long
Before it seeps through the cracks to shine.
Shine.
Shine, she shone like 10,000 starbursts setting the universe on fire.
Through conflict and pain she was an inspiration.
Through the laugher and tears she served the common good
To fight the fight she was born into.
Oh no, hidden no more
She embraced
Herself.

Her feet, planted in the sky.
Her roots, tethered to the earth.
She is alone, yet surrounded by love
Just the same.
