Phoenix Song

Flight Of The Phoenix Paul Hocksenar via Compfight

Introvert.
Shy.
Quiet.
Incarcerated in a “shell.”

Freedom rang from birth ’til age 5.
Until the state of play was changed.

School.

Relocation.
Classified.
Sit down
Shut up
Do as your told.

Home life, stable.
Taken in by two kindly senior citizens
Who, due to age, could not suffer
A lot of talking.

Introduction of religion.
Rules within rules
Wrapped around tradition and expectations.
Good intentions paved the road toward silent compliance.

Good intentions led to people pleasing.
My voice
The sacrificial lamb.

Ash and soot however
Is the birthplace
Of the phoenix.
A song, bursting through the silence.
To be me.
